Today is World Afrin Day, and as such, anarchists around the world are offering their support and solidarity to their Kurdish brothers and sisters currently suffering atrocities and crimes against humanity at the hands of Turkish head of state Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan and his jihadi proxy armies.
There are protests happening right now (Saturday 24th March 2018) in the UK, US, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, Italy, and hundreds of other countries around the world in which anarchists are out in force to condemn the actions of the terrorist Turkish government against the Kurdish civilians and freedom fighters in Afrin city.
The Women's Protection Units also known at the YPJ, and their male counterparts in the YPG fled the area in an attempt to limit the Turkish military and their militias in their attacks on the civilian population. Turkish airstrikes have devastated the city and displaced more than 100,000 residents in the imperialist government's attempt to invade and capture Afrin.
British YPJ fighter Anna Campbell lost her life recently in the Kurdish revolution fighting alongside comrades on the front lines in Afrin. She is now a martyr of the revolution and mourned by millions of Kurds around the world. Her father is currently calling on British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson to work towards the implementation of a No Fly Zone over Afrin so rescuers can retrieve his daughter's body which still lies on the ground in the conflict zone's most intense fighting area.
Here are some photographs from anarchist comrades showing their support for the YPJ/YPG and Kurdish people's in their struggle in Afrin:
The successes of the Rojava commune terrify the capitalist and imperialist heads of the Turkish state, and they will stop at nothing to prevent the spread of self-organised collectives in Northern Syria and across the world. The Turkish government is also responsible for the transfer of masses of funds to the so-called Islamic State and their jihadi armies. Without our assistance and support, the most forward-thinking and progressive stateless society project of our lifetimes could disappear into obscurity.
If you do nothing else, research the Rojava commune, learn about the atrocities in Afrin, and show solidarity with your anarchist comrades around the world who are fighting hard for the survival of the Kurdish people.
Oh, and listen to this song in support of the YPJ (Women's Protection Units)
